What you can do right now

If you are dealing with British Gas on a matter right now, I would suggest the following.

Do not telephone
Use their Live Chat service or via email, so you have a record of everything discussed.
You can copy and paste the chat or request a download of the transcript from the Live Chat Agent.

Take screenshots of or photograph your online energy account screens and keep the images on file, they may be useful later on.

Make a note or diarise of each time you contact your supplier, the date and how long you spent on it.
This will help determine compensation you may be entitled to.

Although it may be stressful and it certainly was for me, please stay calm and try to avoid aggressive or bad language when engaging with your supplier. I have spent the last two years fighting British Gas and I want to pass this knowledge on to you and help you get the results you want.

The more people I can help the more chance we have of getting these large national companies to change as well.

Let’s make a dent in the 4.3 million the owner of British Gas just paid himself.
